PCB 'opt against extending Mickey Arthur and Inzamam Ul-Haq contracts'

Reports emanating from Asia state the head coach and chief selector will be replaced after the World Cup

The PCB has decided against renewing the contracts of head coach Mickey Arthur and chief selector Inzamam-Ul-Haq, according to reports in Asia.

The duo’s contracts are set to end upon the conclusion of the World Cup in mid-July, and the decision has allegedly been taken by the board to not extend their current deals.

While there are no noises yet as to who could replace South African Arthur, former Pakistani opener Amir Sohail is being touted as Inzamam’s successor, having already served as the PCB’s chief selector between 2002 and 2004.

Arthur became Pakistan head coach in May 2016, his third stint in charge of an international side, while former captain Inzamam signed a three-year contract with the PCB in the same year.

The pair were therefore part of the setup that saw Pakistan lift their maiden Champions Trophy in 2017 by beating India by 180 runs in the final at the Oval.

Pakistan begin their World Cup campaign against West Indies on Friday, May 31 at Trent Bridge.
