The last time it had taken place in England, David Varey was dismissed by Jonathan Varey in the Varsity match between Cambridge University and Oxford University in 1982, thus making it the first such occurrence on English soil for 13,603 days
Until Lancashire took on Leicestershire in the sides’ final game of the County Championship season, no cricketer had dismissed their twin brother for 37 years in first-class cricket.
But then, just like London buses, two came along at once. After England’s newly selected leg-spinner Matt Parkinson trapped his brother, Callum, in the first innings, the Leicestershire left-arm spinner responded in kind, dismissing his sibling with a delivery that clipped his front pad before making contact with the bat.
In the process, the pair became the first two twins to take the wicket of their sibling for 59,613 games, according to Cricket Archive cricket manager, Ian Smith.
The last time – the only previous occasion it had taken place in England, David Varey was dismissed by Jonathan Varey in the Varsity match between Cambridge University and Oxford University at Lord’s in 1982, thus making it the first such occurrence on English soil for 13,603 days.
More recently, RS Tilakaratne was stumped off the bowling of his twin, DS Tillakaratne, as Nondescripts faced on Badureliya in 2016.
