South Africa coach Gibson, who had two spells as England bowling coach 2007-10 and 2015-17, has expressed his interest in becoming involved in the England setup for a third time
South Africa coach Ottis Gibson has said he is happy to be one of the names in the reckoning to replace outgoing England coach Trevor Bayliss.
Bayliss, 56, will sees his four-year stint with England come to an end when his contract expires in September following the conclusion of the Ashes.
Now Gibson, who had two spells as England bowling coach 2007-10 and 2015-17, has expressed his interest in becoming involved in the setup for a third time.
"My contract is up in September," Gibson, who will lead the Proteas in to their opening game of the World Cup against England on Thursday, told BBC Sport.
"I'm happy to be linked with any job, because after that I might not have a job.
Trevor Bayliss will end his four-year spell with England in September
"I've been living in England for over 20 years, so that's the answer.
"I enjoyed both my stints with England. I know a lot of the guys in the dressing room."
Gibson played county cricket for Durham, Glamorgan and Leicestershire and as a coach worked under Bayliss in his second spell with England before becoming South Africa head coach at the end of 2017.
"The way they are playing at the moment, I was very much involved in that for the first two years and they have gone on two years since I left."
However, Gibson’s primary concern will be attempting to lead South Africa to their maiden World Cup trophy, but feels no special pressure to deliver that win, despite Cricket South Africa chief executive Thabang Moroe confirming in January that he was hired for that specific reason.
"I don't feel that at all," he said.
"At the end of the day, it's just cricket. If we play well enough to win, we could win. If we don't, life goes on."
