Southampton (day two of four): Glamorgan 353-1, Hampshire 58-0 - Hampshire trail by 478 runs with 10 wickets remaining

Kiran Carlson thumped his maiden County Championship double century as Glamorgan oppressed Hampshire at Utilita Bowl.

Carlson had previously topped out on 191 and 192 in first-class cricket but took full advantage of a batting pitch with a highly entertaining innings. His 209 is the highest score in Division One this season.

He put on 318 runs with Zain ul Hassan – who ended with a massive career-best of 143 – which was just 10 runs shy of Glamorgan's all-time highest second wicket partnership.

Sean Dickson also fired a half-century as Glamorgan pulled out on 536, before rain delays paused the Welsh side's momentum.

Taunton (day two of four): Yorkshire 162 & 13-0, Somerset 274 - Yorkshire are 99 runs behind with 10 second-innings wickets remaining

Yorkshire staged a spirited fightback on day two of the County Championship match against Division One leaders Somerset at Taunton.

Seamer Jack White played a starring role, returning figures of four for 41 from 16 overs as hitherto dominant Somerset were bowled out for 274, losing their last seven wickets for just 73 runs in 28 overs.

In-form Tom Abell registered 50 and Will Smeed an unbeaten 36, but the morning session belonged to the visitors, who bowled and fielded with intensity to restrict their opponents to a first-innings lead of 112.

Yorkshire openers Adam Lyth and Finlay Bean then negotiated 4.3 overs before rain moved in, causing 62.3 overs to be lost in the day. Yorkshire will resume their second innings on 13 without loss, trailing by 99, their chances of saving the game materially enhanced by the elements.

Grace Road (day two of four): Nottinghamshire 405-4, Leicestershire 220-8 - Leicestershire trail by 270 runs with two wickets remaining

Olly Stone turned back the clock to deliver a fast-bowling masterclass as Nottinghamshire tightened their grip against Leicestershire in their County Championship clash.

The 32-year-old England international, who might have played twice as many matches in his career had he not been almost perpetually plagued by injuries, finished with 5 for 41 as promoted Leicestershire closed day two on 220 for 8 in their first innings in reply to the defending champions' 490.

Stevie Eskinazi top-scored for Leicestershire with an unbeaten 44 as he and New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel (38 not out) offered some belated resistance in a so-far unbroken stand of 74 for the ninth wicket, after teammate Ben Green had earlier recorded career-best bowling of 7 for 112.

Stone's figures are his best for Nottinghamshire, for whom he is playing in only his 11th first-class match in four seasons since joining them from Warwickshire, and his first five-wicket haul since 2019.
