Middlesex have announced the signing of allrounder Luke Hollman to a two-year contract.

The 19-year-old allrounder, who bats left-handed and bowls legspin, has so far made 15 appearances for his country at under-19 level, collecting 25 wickets at an average of 27.2 across all formats.

Hollman was born in Islington and represented the county at various junior levels before making his 2nd XI debut in 2017. He is yet to make a senior appearance at county level.

"I am massively honoured, overwhelmed, and hugely privileged to have been given the opportunity to sign this contract with Middlesex – my boyhood club and the club that I've been a fan of my whole life," Hollman said.

"I am really looking forward to the next two years ahead under Stuart Law and his coaching staff and am hopeful that I can contribute towards some success on the field and help the club realise its ambition of securing a return into Division One of the County Championship."

THE GOOGLY: County Championship may have to be put down before it suffers any further indignity

News of Hollman's signing follows that of Australian batsman Peter Handscomb being appointed as captain following Dawid Malan's departure for Yorkshire after 13 seasons on the club staff.

Hollman is the county's third new recruit of the winter after Handscomb and former West Indies quick Miguel Cummins on a Kolpak deal, and he will look to fill the gap created in the spin department by Paul Stirling's decision to commit to Ireland and the release of veteran offspinner Ollie Rayner.

Angus Fraser, Middlesex's managing director of cricket, added: "Luke thoroughly deserves his rookie contract. It comes on the back of strong performances for Middlesex's youth sides, our 2nd XI and for North Middlesex Cricket Club, who he has helped become a major force in the Middlesex Cricket League.

"His potential as an all-rounder excites everyone at Middlesex and we look forward to him developing into a fine cricketer. Luke's potential continues to be recognised by the Young Lions, who he is expected to play for in this winter's under-19 World Cup in South Africa."
