Former Australia international Mel Jones has been appointed as a director on Cricket Australia's board.

Jones, 47, assumes the role of Victoria's state nominee, the position previously held by current CA chairman Earl Eddings.

She becomes the first female ex-player to be named a state-nominated director, and will juggle her new job with an established media career.

Cricket Australia's nine board positions have now been filled for the first time in several months, as the fallout to the ball-tampering scandal and subsequent cultural review of Australian men's cricket begins to ease.

"I’m excited to have this opportunity to work with the board to strengthen cricket’s bond with the community, and ensure a healthy and sustainable future for the next generations," Jones said.

"I have much admiration for the work that has been undertaken over the past 18 months, in particular, an incredibly challenging time for cricket, and a testament to its place in the hearts of Australians."

Jones has previously held a non-executive directorship at Bowls Australia and was a member of Victoria's state government Women in Sport taskforce between 2014 and 2015.

The batter won two Ashes series and two World Cups during her playing days.

Eddings said of her appointment: "Mel has been an active and inspiring part of the cricket fabric for many years, and we are privileged to have her join the board.

"Australian Cricket has been undergoing significant change over the past two years, and I've no doubt Mel's experience on and off the field will be an asset to the team as we move into our next phase."
