The seamer is in quarantine in the team hotel while two members of the backroom team have also been laid low
England have suffered yet another blow after Mark Wood became the latest player to be hit by illness which has rocked the camp in South Africa.
The Durham seamer is the seventh player of the 19-man squad to have been laid low by some kind of sickness during the tour.
Wood, 29, has been placed in quarantine at the team hotel where fellow-victims Ollie Pope, Jack Leach and Chris Woakes are also stationed.
Two members of England's support staff have also stayed away from Centurion on day two of the first Test having picked up the bug.
Stuart Broad and Jofra Archer were suffering in the lead up to the first Test before eventually being passed fit to play.
Ben Stokes then suffered from dehydration during the opening day, regularly having to leave the field to seek fluids.
Imperfect, uncertain and unique: Ben Stokes is the ultimate cricketer for our times
Dom Bess and Craig Overton have already been called up to the squad in the wake of the illness.
There is no indication yet whether further resources will be enlisted after the number of players affected by the virus swelled further.
Having not played any competitive cricket since the World Cup final in July due to a side strain and a bout of knee surgery, Wood was not considered for selection for the opening part of the series.
In an effort to regain full fitness, Wood and James Anderson attended a bowling camp in Cape Town as their respective rehabilitations continued.
Indeed, Wood's return may even be delayed until the T20 international series in February, when England face South Africa three times in preparation for the World Cup.
