Marcus Harris has ended his stint as Leicestershire’s overseas player earlier than planned for travel and logistical reasons related to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Australian batsman scored 655 runs in eight County Championship matches and 232 in four games in the Royal London Cup.

The left-hander made four centuries, including his maiden List A century against Yorkshire, after joining as a replacement for South African Wiaan Mulder, who had initially been due to perform overseas duties before pulling out due to international commitments.

Harris had been due to remain at the county until the end of Leicestershire’s County Championship and Royal London Cup commitments.

He said: “I’ve had a fantastic time at Leicestershire, everyone has been so welcoming and I’ve bonded well with the boys in the squad.

“I’d like to thank Paul Nixon and the coaches for their support, and I wish the team the best of luck for the remaining fixtures.”

Nixon, the club’s head coach, added: “He has been a wonderful addition to the changing room, not only with his sheer weight of runs and level of performance, but also his support to colleagues.

“A lot of our batsmen have learnt a lot from the way he goes about his business, not only in the middle but also the countless hours in the nets and gym, and that's what having a top overseas pro is all about.”
