Lancashire allrounder Liam Livingstone has re-signed for Perth Scorchers ahead of the upcoming Big Bash.

The big-hitting opener hit 425 runs at an average of 30.36 last year, smashing 27 sixes in the process – only Marcus Stoinis struck more. His tally also made him Perth’s highest run-scorer.

While Livingstone has not represented England since 2017, he was involved in Eoin Morgan’s white-ball bubble over the course of the summer.

In recent times, he has also forged a burgeoning reputation on the T20 franchise scene, featuring in the Big Bash, Indian Premier League, Pakistan Super League and Mzansi Super League inside the last 12 months.

However, the 27-year-old still has ambitions in the longer formats of the game. He told The Cricketer in April: “I don’t think people realise that I actually average 42 in first-class cricket, which not many people do. It’s not like I’m just saying that I want to play Test cricket with nothing behind it. I still feel like I’ve got the game to do that.”

In last year’s Big Bash, he formed a formidable opening pairing with Scorchers wicketkeeper Josh Inglis, putting together three first-wicket stands in excess of 100.

Liam Livingstone: A man still with many ambitions

Of his return to Perth, Livingstone said: “I loved my time with Perth last season, I can’t wait to get back out there and get that orange playing shirt back on.

“I enjoyed opening the batting last year and formed a great partnership with ‘Ingo’, hopefully we can pick up where we left off and continue to entertain the Perth supporters.

“The Scorchers have a rich history in the BBL, hopefully we can start the season strong and add another Big Bash title to the collection.”

Perth Scorchers coach Adam Voges added: “It’s terrific that Liam has agreed to join us again, he made a great impression last season finishing as one of the competition’s leading run-scorers.

“He fitted in very well with our group and along with his handy leg spin and energetic fielding, he brings a wealth of talent to the team.”
