Sri Lanka’s Lahiru Kumara and Bangladesh’s Liton Das have each been fined by the ICC following an on-field confrontation between the two players in Sharjah on October 24.

Tensions rose during the Super 12 match after Bangladesh opener Mohammad Naim played a ball to Sri Lanka’s Binura Fernando, only for Fernando to throw the ball back and narrowly miss the batter’s head.

Shortly after, Kumara dismissed Das for 16 and the pair engaged in an on-field exchange before Das left the field.

Kumara was fined 25 per cent of his match fee after the ICC determined his actions and words "provoked an aggressive reaction from the batter." Das was fined 15 per cent of his fee for reacting "aggressively and in a manner which was contrary to the spirit of cricket."

Sri Lanka went on to win the encounter by five wickets. Bangladesh posted a solid 171 for 4 from their 20-over allocation, with Naim scoring 62 (52 balls) and Mushfiqur Rahim finishing 57 not out off 37 balls.

However, Sri Lanka completed their highest successful run chase in a T20 World Cup with seven balls to spare, with Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Charith Asalanka, both of whom were dropped by Das, sharing an important 86-run fifth-wicket stand.
