Jos Buttler fined for swearing at Vernon Philander during second Test

Jos Buttler has survived substantial punishment after being fined just 15 per cent of his match fee after swearing at South Africa's Vernon Philander during the second Test at Cape Town.

The England wicket-keeper blasted "f*****g k******d" at the seamer during The Proteas' second innings on day five, before appearing to make reference to Philander's physical appearance.

Buttler has also been handed one demerit point by the ICC. Any player who accrues between three and four over a two-year period could be banned from future matches.

Despite the reprimand, the Lancashire man will be free to face South Africa in the third Test starting on Thursday (January 16).

England's 189-run win in Cape Town, secured with 8.2 overs remaining, squared the series at 1-1 ahead of the clash at Port Elizabeth.
