What's the match?

Delhi Capitals vs Gujarat Titans in the 2023 Indian Premier League.

When is it taking place?

The match is taking place on Tuesday, April 4 with play commencing at 7.30pm local time (3pm BST).

Where is the match being played?

The fixture is taking place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, India.

Who's got form?

Delhi Capitals were beaten comprehensively by Lucknow Super Giants in their opening game, losing by 50 runs.

Electing to bowl first, the Capitals conceded 193 in the 20 overs with the left-arm pace pairing of Khaleel Ahmed and Chetan Sakariya taking two wickets apiece.

In reply, captain David Warner made a scratchy 56 from 48 balls at the top, supported only by Rilee Rossouw's 30 runs from 20 balls, as Capitals crawled to 143 from the full 20 overs.

Gujarat Titans, in contrast, opened their defence of the IPL convincingly on Friday evening with a five-wicket victory against Chennai Super Kings.

Mohamed Shami (who took his 100th IPL wicket), Rashid Khan and Alzarri Joseph each picked up two wickets as CSK reached 178 for 6.

Titans' Indian starlet Shubman Gill scored 63 runs from 36 balls, as he and opening partner Wriddhiman Saha made a blistering start.

Contributions from Sai Sudharsan and Vijay Shankar brought GT closer to the target, before Rahul Tewatia finished the game in trademark fashion, pummelling a six and a four off the first two balls of the final over.

What's the team news?

For DC, it has been reported that Englishman Phil Salt may come in as a specialist wicketkeeper, potentially replacing Rovman Powell, who scored just one run against LSG. However, given the Capitals' clear need for firepower in their order, Powell's elite ball-striking would be a significant miss.

Sarfaraz Khan, who made just four, could also be replaced by 20-year old Yash Dhull. The New Delhi-born batsman already has three T20 half-centuries in eight career games.

As for Titans, the only stain on Friday's victory was the loss of Kane Williamson to a knee injury. The team have confirmed that the Kiwi star will be out for the remainder of the season, with messages of support flooding in over social media. The search for his squad replacement is already under way.

Fortunately for the 2022 IPL champions, they have a wealth of batting within their squad. Australian T20 World Cup winner, Matthew Wade, is a ready made replacement at No.3 or No.4. He would be the natural choice to fill the Williamson void, but Indian wicket-keeper batsman KS Bharat is also an option.

David Miller is due to return from international duty with South Africa in the coming days to further bolster GT's intimidating middle order.

What's the key matchup?

All nine Capitals wickets fell to either Mark Wood or spin on Friday evening, so focus will be on how they deal with the GT pace attack and, of course, Rashid Khan.

Khan was typically economical in GT's first game and with the long levers of Mitchell Marsh, Rilee Rossouw and Rovman Powell in the Capitals lineup, his skillset will be key to tying them down.

The number one ranked T20I bowler is rarely dominated due to his flat trajectory and deceitful googlies, meaning Capitals' batters may look to cash in against the quicks.

But Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya will attack the stumps of Prithvi Shaw and David Warner right from the top and will be followed by Alzarri Joseph, who is blossoming into a highly skilled white ball bowler.

What's the weather forecast?

After a scorching day reaching highs of 33 degrees Celsius, it is due to be a slightly cooler, yet dry evening in Delhi with temperatures remaining around 26 degrees and 0 per cent chance of rain.
