Virat Kohli became the only player to accumulate over 20,000 international runs in a single decade after striking his 43rd one-day century as India downed the West Indies at the Port-of-Spain.

The captain went to 20,018 runs since the start of 2010 with an unbeaten 114, as India romped home by six wickets to secure a 2-0 series win over the Windies.

But the headlines firmly belonged to the 30-year-old, who further etched his name in cricketing history by taking ownership of another record.

"I have been around for a while. Experience counts in pressure situations, understanding where the game is heading and what I need to do in terms of the tempo of the game," he said.

"So, you obviously want to take a lot of pride in stepping up for the team as much as you can and I definitely take a lot of pride in that."

Kohli had already amassed the most runs in a single decade but he is the first to go past this particular landmark across all formats of the game.

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting (18,962) and ex-South Africa allrounder Jacques Kallis (16,777) are next on the list, with their runs accumulated between 2000 and 2009.

Legendary Sri Lanka duo Mahela Jayawardene (16,304) and Kumar Sangakkara (15,999) are fourth and fifth in the standings, ahead of Kohli's fellow-countryman Sachin Tendulkar.

Rahul Dravid (15,853) is seventh overall while eighth place Hashim Amla (15,185) is the only other entrant in the top eight whose runs have come since 2010.

As well as reaching the 20,000 milestone, Kohli is now just six behind Tendulkar's total of 49 ODI centuries.
