The 25-year-old has signed up as injury cover for the next five rounds of the County Championship
Cameron Steel has joined Hampshire on a six-week loan deal from Durham.
The 25-year-old will be available for the five rounds of County Championship matches in April and May, starting against Gloucestershire next week.
Steel arrives as injury cover amid the continued absence of Aneurin Donald.
In 40 first-class appearances, Steel has scored 2,007 runs at 29.51 and taken 21 wickets.
Director of cricket Giles White said of the former Middlesex batting allrounder: "There was an opportunity to bring Cameron in on loan and he fits very well with where we are at this point in time.
"He's an opening batsman with an appetite for runs and that should stand him in good stead.
"Cameron will get an opportunity in the Second XI and that competition within the squad is a positive for us - there were other teams that were keen to have him so it's great that he's come here to Hampshire and we're really pleased to have him with us."
