Tim MacDonald has been appointed as England Women’s senior assistant coach on a permanent basis.

The Australian – a former seamer for Western Australia and Tasmania – had initially held the role on an interim basis through the T20 World Cup.

The 39-year-old was previously assistant to head coach Lisa Keightley during her time with both Perth Scorchers and Western Fury.

He has now joined up with England Women at their bio-secure training camp at Derbyshire’s Incora County Ground. They will play their first intra-squad match on Thursday – streamed on the ECB website, with teams set as Team Britton and Team Heyhoe in tribute to two of England’s most iconic female players.

Keightley said of MacDonald’s appointment: “I’ve known Tim for a while and I've worked with him previously and I knew what skills he would bring to the group, especially with the fast bowlers.

“He was a great addition across the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in Australia and when it came to interview he was the stand-out candidate in terms of helping the team continue their improvement.”

England are due to face South Africa in a series in September, though fixtures will not be announced until the visitors have confirmed they are traveling. Domestic fixtures are also set to be revealed in the near future.
