Somerset have installed Gordon Hollins, the former head of the country game at the England and Wales Cricket Board, as their fourth chief-executive in two years.

The appointment, which was unanimously approved by the Nominations Committee, follows the departure of Andrew Cornish last August after the club failed to match financial targets.

Hollins spent a dozen years with the ECB in various roles, including as chief operating officer and managing director of county cricket.

Liaising with the 18 counties and helping with the delivery of the Inspiring Generations strategy were among Hollins' central responsibilities.

"Cricket is in my heart and the opportunity to lead a club which I have greatly admired throughout my time in the game and has such potential to grow, was something I could not resist," said Hollins, who has previously operated as Durham commercial director.

"I look forward to getting to know the Somerset team on and off the field and working with them, our members and partners to deliver the club’s ambitions."

Chairman Gordon Baird added: "Gordon was quickly identified as the right person to take forward a club which already has an enviable track record both on and off the pitch.

"The current strength of county cricket at all levels is due in no small part to Gordon’s major contribution.

"I am confident that his executive leadership will enable this club to successfully capitalise on the vast potential in Somerset and the South West as a whole, both on and off the field."

News of Hollins' arrival - his spell will begin on March 16 - comes amid a period of upheaval at Taunton.

Charles Clark, their former chairman, died in June while Richard Parsons' spell as president ended in January 2019. Gordon Baird has since been confirmed as the new chairman.
