The former England captain will replace Kumar Sangakkara on October 1, 2021. Connor, who is currently the ECB's managing director of women's cricket, was made an honorary life member of the organisation in 2009
Clare Connor has been named as the next president of the MCC, becoming the first woman to hold the role in the 233-year history of the club.
The former England captain will replace Kumar Sangakkara in the position on October 1, 2021. Sangakkara, who is set to serve a second 12-month term after his first was interrupted by the coronavirus pandemic, announced her nomination at an annual general meeting held online.
Connor, who is currently the ECB’s managing director of women’s cricket, was made an honorary life member of the MCC in 2009.
Now 43, she made her England debut at the age of just 19 in 1995, becoming captain five years later. In 2005, she led England to an Ashes victory, which also proved to be the culmination of her time in charge, retiring from the game shortly afterwards. She has subsequently been involved in the women’s game ever since.
She was appointed as the ECB’s head of women’s cricket in 2007, before she was made the national governing body’s managing director of women’s cricket last year.
Aside from her ECB duties, Connor has also acted as chair of the ICC women’s cricket committee since 2011.

Fantastic! Well done Clare. Had the pleasure of meeting her once many years ago - very impressed.
