In financially turbulent times the club have made the decision to prioritise the selection of home-qualified players in order to make the most of incentives offered by the ECB
Charlie Hemphrey has left Glamorgan by mutual consent, ending a drawn-out saga relating to his England-qualified status.
Hemphrey was born in Doncaster and was part of Kent's academy but moved to Brisbane aged 24 after failing to make the grade in county cricket.
He enjoyed a resurgence in Australia, however, and in 2015 broke into the Queensland side. That acheivement affected ECB eligibility critera, which states that a player loses their England-qualified status in the event of playing professional cricket outside of England and Wales.
Hemphrey played as an overseas for Queensland from 2018 but still had to serve a three-year re-qualification period to become England-eligible upon his move to Glamorgan.
The Welsh county would be free to use him, but in financially turbulent times the club have made the decision to prioritise the selection of home-qualified players in order to make the most of incentives offered by the ECB.

Charlie Hemphrey's contract with Glamorgan has been cancelled
That had left Hemphrey facing a season without a game in 2021. His contract has subsequently been cancelled 12 months early and he will stay in Australia.
Glamorgan director of cricket, Mark Wallace, said: "Charlie’s situation with his England qualification has been well publicised. The incentives for fielding home qualified cricketers are now greater than ever and as a result we were open and honest with Charlie in telling him that it would have to be a consideration in selection moving forward.
"We’ve had some long conversations with Charlie to work out the best solution for everyone and finally agreed that we would shake hands on the rest of his contract with the club.
"Charlie was a very popular member of the squad and has been a hugely positive influence at the club since joining.
"Everyone at Glamorgan wishes him and his family well for the future.”
Hemphrey said in a club statement: "I’d like to thank Glamorgan for giving me the opportunity to play county cricket.
"I loved playing for the club, living in Wales and I couldn’t have asked for better teammates.
"When the new regulations came in place, this was always the likely outcome, but I’d like to thank the club for their support at a difficult time.
"I’ll be supporting the club from Brisbane and will always be a lifelong Glamorgan fan."
