Northamptonshire red-ball captain Adam Rossington has signed a contract extension at Wantage Road.

The wicketkeeper-batsman, who joined the club from Middlesex in 2014, will remain at the county until at least the end of the 2022 season.

Rossington boasts a first-class batting average of 35.33, while scoring his runs in T20 cricket at a strike-rate of 139.2.

He initially took over as the club’s four-day skipper midway through the 2019 season, with Northamptonshire at the time struggling in the County Championship’s second tier. By the end of the campaign, they had secured an unlikely promotion.

“I’m happy to have signed a new deal with Northamptonshire. These are exciting times being back in Division One when it goes back to two divisions,” he said of his new deal. “We have a strong group of players with a good mix of youth and experience in the changing room.

“Last year was a promising year; it was good to have a look at some younger lads in the Bob Willis Trophy, so I’m pleased we took that approach to the competition. It was a fantastic opportunity for players who hadn’t had much time in the middle to have a chance to show the fans what they’re about.”

In 2020, Northamptonshire reached the T20 Blast quarter-finals, before losing convincingly to Gloucestershire at Bristol. Their hopes of challenging once again have been bolstered in the off-season with the news that Afghanistan allrounder Mohammad Nabi will join the club.
