Former England coach Andy Flower has been appointed as head coach of Maratha Arabians in the T10 League just days after it was announced that he would leave his role as technical director of elite coaching.

The Zimbabwean, whose departure from the ECB as part of a major overhaul was confirmed last week, will now oversee the franchise in the 10-day competition, which takes place in Abu Dhabi.

It was also announced that West Indian allrounder Dwayne Bravo will remain the team’s captain; Bravo missed the Caribbean Premier League with a finger injury.

During his time in charge of England, Flower led the national side to top of the Test rankings, while also coaching Paul Collingwood’s team to World T20 glory in 2010.

He formed a formidable captain-coach partnership with Andrew Strauss, with whom he masterminded England’s landmark Ashes victory in Australia in the winter of 2010.

“I have just come off a tremendous run with English cricket and am now looking ahead to the future with hope,” Flower told The National.

“Anything that is new and is innovative like T10 cricket always has an automatic appeal.

“From a coaching perspective it presents new challenges to test yourself against in a world-class environment.

“I am looking forward to joining forces with some of the world’s best players for Maratha Arabians."
