Australia took a giant stride towards the T20 World Cup semi-finals after outclassing Bangladesh at Manuka Oval.

The reigning world champions put on 189 for 1 from their 20 overs, the biggest total of the tournament so far.

Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney struck 151 for the first wicket, the highest stand in the world champions' T20I history.

In reply, Megan Schutt claimed two early wickets before Bangladesh showed some character, with Fargana Hoque top-scoring with 36 from 35 balls.

But it was not enough as the four-time winners clinched an 86-run success to send Bangladesh crashing out of the competition.

Meg Lanning's side are now just one win away from the knock-out stage and face New Zealand in their final group match on Monday (March 2).

From the moment Healy hammered the first ball of the match for four, Australia signalled their intent after two nervy performances in the defeat to India and win over Sri Lanka.

WOMEN'S T20 WORLD CUP 2020 FIXTURES

Healy had arrived in the competition off the back of an awful run of scores in the tri-series against India and England - but she served notice of her undoubted world-class talent with a blistering knock.

An enterprising 83 from 53 balls included 10 fours and three sixes and dismantled the Bangladesh attack from the outset.

Beth Mooney also enjoyed an impressive return to form - she had been the only one of the Australia top five without a double-figure score in the competition - with an unbeaten 81 from 58 balls.

The pair put on a fabulous 151 opening stand, the highest partnership for any wicket in their T20 history surpassing Karen Rolton and Kate Blackwell's 147-run charge against England in 2005.

Though Healy was eventually dismissed, Ashleigh Gardner continued the fireworks with 22 not out from nine deliveries as the underdogs were set an imposing target.

Megan Schutt took three wickets to secure the win

Indeed, it was a record chase that Bangladesh never flirting with attempting. Schutt claiming two wickets in her second over as Murshida Khatun (8) was caught and Shamima Sultana (13) saw her stumps decimated.

As Ellyse Perry tied up one end with figures of 3-0-12-0, the wickets flowed at the other. Sanjida Islam (3) soon departed as Australia picked up from where they left off in the first innings.

Fargana Hoque, who is closing in on 1,000 T20 international runs, steadied the ship but her departure sparked a run of four wickets in seven balls.

A second scalp for Jess Jonassen and two embarrassing run-outs meant Bangladesh finished on 103 for 9 from their full allocation, allowing Australia to cruise to victory by 86 runs as their campaign continues to improve.
