Conway was dismissed for a duck in the first over of New Zealand's first innings but shared a 149-run opening stand with Tom Latham in the second innings to bring his side back into the game after England enforced the follow-on.
He scored 61 runs off 155 balls, his seventh half-century and 11th fifty-plus knock in 14 Tests.
At the start of play on day five, England required 210 runs to seal a 2-0 series win, resuming on 48 for 1.
