Scorecard

Records tumbled in Amstelveen as England defeated the Netherlands by 232 runs.

Batting first, Eoin Morgan’s side set a new world record for highest team score in both ODI cricket and men’s List A cricket after closing on 498 for 4 from their 50 overs.

Jos Buttler’s 70-ball 162 was the pick of the innings while Phil Salt (122 off 93) and Dawid Malan (125 off 109) both reached triple-figures and Liam Livingstone contributed a quickfire 66 off just 22 deliveries.

Only Jason Roy, bowled for one in the second over by his cousin Shane Snater, and Eoin Morgan, pinned lbw for a golden duck by Pieter Seelaar, failed to capitalise on the batter-friendly conditions.

However, it should be noted that both Salt and Buttler were handed lifelines by the Netherlands. Salt was dropped by Snater on 40 while Buttler was first missed on the boundary by Vikramjit Singh and dropped four balls later by Musa Ahmed, both off the bowling of Seelaar.

In reply, Singh made a solid start for the Netherlands before being removed lbw by David Willey for 13.

Fellow opener Max O’Dowd set to work rebuilding his side’s innings, putting on 80 runs with Ahmed and bringing up his half-century in the process. However, both players fell in the space of two balls, Ahmed caught by Adil Rashid off Moeen Ali, and O’Dowd bowled by Reece Topley for 55.

Sam Curran ended a promising fourth-wicket partnership in the 30th over, Livingstone taking the catch to dismiss Bas de Leede, before Moeen accounted for Tom Cooper and Logan van Beek.

A 59-run partnership between captain Seelaar and Scott Edwards pushed the Netherlands beyond the 200-mark before the former was bowled by Willey for 25. Curran and Topley also picked second wickets at the death, removing Snater and Aryan Dutt, respectively.

Malan, bowling his first over in ODI cricket, wrapped up proceedings in the final over, removing Philippe Boissevain, but not before Edwards had brought up his half-century. He finished not out on 72 off 56.
