Middlesex have signed West Indies fast bowler Miguel Cummins on a deal until the end of the season.
The 29-year-old seamer has played 14 Test matches, the last of which came in India’s win last month. Cummins went wicketless in both innings and did not play in the second game of the series.
Cummins has arrived in time to train with his new teammates, making him available for selection for the county’s home game against Durham at Lord’s, which begins on Tuesday.
Head coach Stuart Law and his assistant Nic Pothas both worked with Cummins during their stint with the West Indies national side.
Middlesex managing director of cricket Angus Fraser said: “At the end of a period of intense cricket it is inevitable that some of your fast bowlers begin to feel the strain of a season and complain of soreness and niggles.
“We have three big matches to play in this season’s County Championship and want to gain one of the three promotion places that are available.
“The signing of Miguel will add freshness and some hostility to our bowling attack and allow us to, hopefully, play fully fit bowlers in each game. He will provide us with something different and it is great for us to have the option of another Test quality bowler to pick from.”
Cummins will also be available for the two final four-day games of the season against Lancashire and Derbyshire.
