Middlesex batsman Eoin Morgan has been awarded a testimonial year by the county after 15 seasons of first-team service.

The 33-year-old has represented both England and Ireland at international level since making his professional debut for the county in 2005, scoring more than 10,000 international runs in his 531 international outings to date.

After making his England debut against the West Indies early in 2009, Morgan featured in the side that lifted the country's first white-ball tournament trophy in 2010 and went on to captain the ODI side through the 2015 and 2019 World Cups.

"It is a huge honour for me to be awarded a testimonial year in 2020," Morgan said.

"I'm extremely proud to have been at Middlesex since the age of 16 and everyone at the club has played a part in me becoming the person and player I am today. I am very grateful for their support and guidance."

Morgan first became a regular part of the Middlesex lineup in 2006 before making his international debut

After moving to London as a teenager, Morgan made his List A debut for Middlesex little more than a week after his 19th birthday.

The following summer he began to firmly establish his place in both county and international lineups, going on to score 279 runs during the county's victorious Twenty20 Cup campaign of 2008.

Morgan, who will also captain the Lord's-based London Spirit side in The Hundred next year, has so far made 267 first-team appearances for the county, scoring 8,734 runs and captaining the side on 47 occasions.

Angus Fraser, Middlesex's managing director of cricket, commented: "Eoin's teenage move from Dublin to London and his development from a shy 16-year-old boy that played 2nd XI cricket for Middlesex into the man that guided England to World Cup glory at Lord's is almost a fairytale-like story.

"Eoin's journey has involved him playing more than 265 games of cricket for Middlesex and becoming the club's most capped England player. What makes it even better is that the story, with both Middlesex and England, is not over yet.

"These achievements more than merit a testimonial and I am sure Eoin will receive the support his career deserves."
