Guyana: West Indies 173-5, Uganda 39 - West Indies win by 134 runs

West Indies defeated Uganda by 134 runs in a one-sided T20 World Cup encounter in Guyana.

The co-hosts were far too good for the tournament debutants, who were bowled out for just 39 after restricting Rovman Powell's side to 173 for 5 in their 20 overs.

Akeal Hosein, the left-arm spinner, took five Ugandan wickets, mixing big-spinning deliveries with a lethal arm-ball that swung prodigiously.

It meant that Uganda, who defeated Papua New Guinea for a famous victory last time out, were bowled out for 39, the joint-lowest total in men's T20 World Cup matches. Juma Miyagi top-scored with 13 not out.

They equalled the total managed by the Netherlands in 2014; the Dutch team were also bowled out for 44 by Sri Lanka in 2021. West Indies themselves were rolled for just 55 in the same tournament three years ago.

Hosein trapped Roger Mukasa, Alpesh Ramjani and Kenneth Waiswa in front, while he bowled Riazat Ali Shah and Dinesh Nakrani, the latter with a beauty that spun through the left-hander's gate.

Uganda, new to this level, had no answer to the 31-year-old. Simon Ssesazi fell to Romario Shepherd and Brian Masaba gloved an Alzarri Joseph bouncer, while Robinson Obuya was cleaned up by Andre Russell. Frank Nsubuga was the last man out, bowled by Joseph.

Russell had earlier finished unbeaten on 30 in 17 balls, with West Indies' entire top six making starts without reaching fifty.

Johnson Charles top-scored with 44, with Nicholas Pooran (22), Sherfane Rutherford (22), Rovman Powell (23) and Brandon King (13) all chipping in.
