Following the Netherlands' exit from the 2024 Men's T20 World Cup, Sybrand Engelbrecht has announced his retirement from international cricket.

Engelbrecht represented the Dutch in 24 games - 12 T20Is and 12 ODIs - following his debut in 2023. He had previously played Under-19s cricket for South Africa.

The batter played in each of the Netherlands' four matches at the T20 World Cup, against South Africa, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal.

He helped them to a win against Nepal in the opener, scoring 14 runs in a tight chase, but the European nation were eliminated, losing each of the other three matches.

In their final game of the tournament, which could have seem them progress if they'd won, Engelbrecht pulled off a stunning stop on the boundary to save six runs.

He caught the ball one handed over his right shoulder and flicked it back into play in mid-air before landing on the boundary cushion, though he suggested it was "a little bit lucky".

The Netherlands, though showing promise at stages, were resigned to an 83-run loss.

Engelbrecht has now signed off from international cricket at the age of 35, with 280 T20I runs at an average just over 30, and 385 ODI runs at 35.
