David Wiese's super over heroics deliver Namibia dramatic win over Oman

The all-rounder struck an unbeaten 13 and defended 21 as a tied game was decided, almost single-handedly, by the 39-year-old's experience and poise under pressure

Barbados: Oman 109, Namibia 109-6 - match tied (Namibia won the super over)

Namibia survived a late scare to get their Men's T20 World Cup campaign off to the perfect start with a dramatic super over win over Oman at Kensington Oval.

Both sides were locked on 109 after 20 overs each, leading to a single-over shoot-out.

David Wiese struck 13 not out alongside Gerhard Erasmus (8 not out) off Bilal Khan as Oman were set 22 to win after the highest-scoring over of the contest.

And it proved a bridge too far for the ACC Premier Cup finalists, as Wiese showed all his experience with the ball to concede just 10 runs and dismiss Naseem Khushi.

Earlier, left-arm seamer Ruben Trumpelmann had delivered career-best figures of 4 for 21 to seemingly set Namibia up for a routine victory.

Wiese, 39, took 3 for 28 and though Khalid Kail struck 34 Oman were dismissed for just 109.

Namibia lost opener Michael van Lingen (0) in the opening over and though scoring was tough on an unpredictable surface they remained in control, needing six runs off the final over with half a dozen wickets in hand.

Jan Frylinck, twice put down, was bowled off his legs for 45 and Zane Green was trapped lbw with five still required.

Mehran Khan completed a remarkable final over and Oman could even have won it off the final ball if Khushi's flick had run out Malan Kruger.

But if the sides couldn't be separated during regulation play, Namibia dominated the super over. Wiese resumed, smashing boundaries off the first two deliveries from Bilal Khan before Erasmus twice found the rope to take the score to 21.

It was Wiese, rather than Trumpelmann, who was thrown the ball for the Oman reply and experience told as Namibia snuck home to an opening-round win.
