Dwaine Pretorius ruled out of T20 World Cup with fractured thumb

The 33-year-old picked up the injury during the third T20I between South Africa and India on October 4

Dwaine Pretorius has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup with a fractured thumb.

The 33-year-old bowling-allrounder picked up the injury to his left hand during the third T20I between South Africa and India on October 4. South Africa won by 49 runs, with Pretorius taking 3 for 26 from 3.3 overs.

Marco Jansen has been added to South Africa's squad for their three-match ODI series against India (October 6-11).

Named among the reserves for the T20 World Cup alongside Andile Phehlukwayo and Bjorn Fortuin, he is likely the frontrunner to replace Pretorius in Australia.

Pretorius has made 30 T20I appearances for South Africa since making his debut in June 2017, scoring 261 runs at a strike rate of 164.15 and taking 35 wickets at 19.88.

His absence is the second big blow to South Africa's title hopes, with Rassie van der Dussen (finger) also missing the tournament through injury.

South Africa have been placed in Group 2 in the Super 12s alongside Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and two qualifiers, and will begin their campaign against one of the qualifiers in Hobart on October 24.
