India produced a timely comeback with the ball to take a giant step towards the T20 World Cup semi-finals with victory over Bangladesh in Adelaide.

Set 185, The Tigers looked on course to stage an upset after reaching 67 for 0.

When the rain fell after seven overs and forced both teams from the field, Bangladesh were 17 runs ahead on Duckworth Lewis Stern.

A 53-minute delay saw their target re-adjusted to 151 in 16 overs, with a slippery outfield expected to make bowling and ground fielding tough.

But sparked by the run-out of Litton Das (60) by KL Rahul, India took six Bangladesh wickets to limit them to 145 for 6 and secure a five-run victory.

Needing to protect 20 from the final over, Arshdeep Singh conceded just 14 to confirm India's third Super 12s win.

The win takes India to the top of Group Two with one match remaining, while Bangladesh must beat Pakistan in their final match to stand any chance of reaching the semi-finals.

India had earlier struck their highest score of the competition, 184 for 6, after being inserted.

Rahul made a return to form with a 32-ball 50 but Virat Kohli took centre stage with 64 from 44 deliveries.

The new No.1 ranked ICC T20I men's batter Suryakumar Yadav - who was put down on 13 - added 30 but their progress was checked by wickets for Shakib Al Hasan (2 for 33) and Hasan Mahmud (3 for 47).

Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin added 27 in the last 11 balls in what proved to be a vital contribution in the context of the match.
