Melbourne Stars leg-spinner Adam Zampa will miss his side’s next game after using an “audible obscenity” which was picked up by a stump microphone during his team’s defeat against Sydney Thunder.

He was handed his one-game ban after accepting the charge, which came after he appeared to remark: ‘F*** me’, following a delivery to Thunder batsman Callum Ferguson in the 16th over of Stars’ defeat.

Earlier in the same over, a misfield off his bowling had cost four runs and his comment came after Ferguson had taken a single from a subsequent delivery.

The incident was deemed a Level One breach of Cricket Australia’s code of conduct for using an audible obscenity during a game. He was also fined £1,400.
