Leicestershire have signed allrounder James Weighell on loan from Durham for the remainder of the 2020 season.
It has already been announced that the 26-year-old will leave Durham at the end of the campaign at the expiry of his contract, but he has now joined Paul Nixon’s side ahead of their Bob Willis Trophy match against Derbyshire on Saturday.
He will be available for both red-ball and white-ball competitions. He has so far taken 52 first-class wickets, having also averaged 24.09 with the bat.
Durham director of cricket Marcus North said: “I would like to wish James the best of luck for the remainder of the season at Leicestershire and hope all goes well for whatever follows next.”
Weighell added: “I am very excited and thankful to have been given an opportunity at Leicestershire to pursue my cricket this season. I can’t wait to get started.”
“It is great news that we’re able to bring James to the Running Foxes for the 2020 season,” Nixon said. “James will be a great addition to our squad. He’s a fine right arm bowler who also offers great potential with the bat as a left-hander. He is a versatile cricketer with a good red and white-ball record.”
