JOSH STACEY: The Running Foxes secure a deal for the young batter who captained Loughborough CC against Paul Nixon's side during pre-season
Leicestershire have handed Louis Kimber a professional deal after impressive for the club's second XI.
The 24-year-old has been thrust immediately into the squad for the County Championship trip to Hampshire.
He has made two first-class appearances for Loughborough MCCU in 2019, averaging 33 from three innings.
Kimber caught the eye in Leicestershire's new season curtain-raiser, captaining Loughborough University against the Foxes in March.
Since he has impressed in a number of second XI games, a run which includes a score of 178 against Nottinghamshire.
Kimber said: “It was a very proud moment for me and my family. It has always been something I've wanted to do from a young age so to finally get the opportunity is very pleasing and hopefully, I can repay the faith that the club has shown in me."
Leicestershire head coach Paul Nixon added: “We of course had a good look at him during the University game down at the Uptonsteel County Ground earlier this season and we are pleased to be able to offer him his first professional contract in cricket.
“We feel he will be a good fit amongst the squad and look forward to seeing him progress for the Running Foxes.”
