Leicestershire seamer Alex Evans has signed his first contract with the club.
The 19-year-old academy graduate made his County Championship debut for Paul Nixon’s side in September against Northamptonshire, taking four wickets in the match.
Under the terms of his deal, he will combine his playing commitments with his continued studies at Loughborough University.
Evans made his first-class bow against Leicestershire for his MCCU side in March, impressing while going wicketless. He then represented the club’s second team through much of the campaign, taking 26 wickets in seven three-day games, winning the county’s Young Player of the Year award in the process.
He said: “I am really grateful to Leicestershire County Cricket Club for this brilliant opportunity, and I would like to thank everyone who has helped me get to this stage of my career. I wouldn’t be here without the support of all of my coaches, family and friends.”
Head coach Nixon added: “We are absolutely delighted to have Alex on board with us at the Foxes, he is a quality young man with a fine attitude. He has a bright future and we look forward to him continuing his development with us.”
