Lancashire director of cricket Paul Allott has confirmed that the club would be interested in re-signing the Australian pair of Glenn Maxwell and James Faulkner for the 2020 campaign.
Speaking in a post-season interview on the club’s official website, he admitted he was happy with his side’s squad going into next season, having already signed left-arm seamer Luke Wood from Nottinghamshire.
“It will be highly likely that we try and look at Glenn Maxwell again for our T20,” he said. “We’re looking at Jimmy Faulkner as well in T20.”
The duo played a key role as Lancashire dominated the group stage of the competition, claiming the most points of any of the 18 counties.
What looked like becoming an inevitable run to Finals Day, however, was ended in controversial circumstances, with Lancashire forced to play their quarter-final away from Emirates Old Trafford because of a clash with the fourth Ashes Test.
The game was moved to Durham’s Emirates Riverside ground, where they were beaten by eventual champions Essex in a game interrupted during the second innings by rain.
Allott added: “What we’re looking to do next year is to sign a red-ball specialist for the first seven matches. And then, I think for the back end of the summer, you have to assess where you are. There will be players available.”
During their promotion-winning season in the County Championship, Lancashire fielded three separate overseas players at different stages of the year. Maxwell featured in four games, struggling with the bat but taking a five-wicket haul with the ball.
The club had initially signed Australian opening batsman Joe Burns, but his stint was cut short after he returned home for personal reasons, before being diagnosed with a fatigue illness.
Jake Lehmann – son of former Yorkshire overseas star Darren – also played three games. However, he averaged just 8.75 in four innings.
