Kia Oval Talking Points: Will Jacks' stunning six-saving leap

The Cricketer looks at the main talking points from the Men's Hundred clash between Oval Invincibles and Manchester Originals at the Kia Oval

Movement That Inspires play of the day

Jos Buttler owes cricket nothing. He is a double World Cup winner, a former white-ball captain and simply one of the best wicketkeeper-batters in the modern-day game.

And though injury has prevented full involvement in The Hundred since its inception, he doesn't owe this tournament anything either.

It was astonishing to hear that days after the passing of his father, Buttler was taking his place in the Originals XI at the Kia Oval. Both teams wore black armbands during the game as a tribute.

We won't speculate on the reasons why Buttler decided to take to the field, but it was quite the act to do so given what he and his family will have been through over the last couple of days.

It was quite the gesture from one of this team's senior figures and most important players, and it shouldn't go unrecognised.

Take The Lead, Drive Electric moment of the day

Whether it be with the bat, with the ball, or in the field, Will Jacks is virtually impossible to keep out of a game of T20 cricket.

Long before the England allrounder's brutal half-century as part of a match-winning opening partnership with Tawanda Muyeye, he left his mark on the contest with a staggering piece of fielding.

In the One Day Cup the previous day, Tim Robinson had prevented a six with a sublime leap behind the boundary playing for Northamptonshire, before he flicked the ball back into play.

These kinds of acts have become commonplace in the sport. Think Jordan Silk or Nicholas Pooran, for other examples.

Jacks complete another when his England colleague Phil Salt launched Rashid Khan down the ground as Manchester Originals looked to improve on their rather substandard innings.

The ball looked to be soaring for a maximum until Jacks jumped over the boundary and clawed the ball back miraculously.

Left sprawled on the floor, he then showed the presence of mind to get to his feet and throw the ball back in, limiting the damage to just two runs.

Anderson ovation

It was another less-than-ideal day for Manchester Originals' wildcard.

James Anderson saw his 10 deliveries dispatched for 25, and with that ended the Originals' hopes of dragging the game back in their favour in the chase.

But he was still the big-ticket item on show. And that was never better emphasised than at the end of the Originals' innings of 128 when Anderson was forced to bat.

Upon entering the field, he was welcomed by a standing ovation from the Kia Oval crowd, many of whom will have arrived hoping to catch a glimpse of England's greatest bowler.

He added a couple of runs - taking his career tally to 28 in 55 matches (14 innings) - in what may have been an important 10th-wicket stand worth 16 with Scott Currie. And it certainly went better than his display with the ball.

It was a reminder that regardless of format, age or stage, Anderson remains appointment viewing. Playing behind the paywall for so long, he is as accessible to watch as ever before, and many are taking advantage of what might be his farewell tour.
