The Cricketer looks at the main talking points from the women's Hundred clash between Oval Invincibles and Trent Rockets

Movement That Inspires play of the day

Nadine de Klerk is a latecomer to the women's Hundred party, added after being enlisted as an injury replacement for Dane van Niekerk, but she has been a welcome addition to the fold.

The South African answered the call from Oval Invincibles, flying over from her homeland for a two-game stint.

This was just about as perfect a performance as you could wish for, hitting a punchy half-century - the second-fastest in the women's Hundred - helping to run out Fran Wilson and taking the wicket of Naomi Dattani in the chase.

It inspired an Invincinbles victory, just their third of the campaign, as the three-peat slipped through their fingers.

Jonathan Batty and co. have some interesting decisions to make around their overseas players for 2023. Retaining Marizanne Kapp is a no-brainer, but Van Niekerk's role has reduced as the seasons have gone on and they are devoid of another front-line seamer to take the new ball.

De Klerk has put her hand up for next summer, if not at Invincibles but certainly at a rival side, following a stint with The Blaze in the Heyhoe Flint Trophy.

Take The Lead, Drive Electric moment of the day

In the space of four deliveries, Paige Scholfield went about trying to win the game all on her own for the Invincibles.

Off the 71st delivery, fielding off her own bowling, she sprinted for the ball which had been tucked into the leg-side, turned and threw at the non-striker's end, hitting the stumps. Lizelle Lee, on 61 at the time and who later admitted to being jaded, was well short of her ground coming back for the second.

A handful of deliveries later and she had a wicket of her own to celebrate, completing a caught and bowled chance as Jo Gardner powered the ball back her way. The one-handed grab left the Rockets needing 39 in 25 balls and with pressure on the lower order to produce.

And despite the best efforts of teenager Alexa Stonehouse, they couldn't quite get over the line.

The end of a legend

Regardless of the outcome in this match and the impact on the remainder of the tournament, there was no overshadowing the exit of Katherine Sciver-Brunt from professional cricket.

Many of the 12,000 who made the early afternoon trip to the Kia Oval will have done so hoping to see the final bow of England women's most potent bowler.

But a hip problem denied them the opportunity to do just that, her fate sealed when Rockets could no longer progress to the latter stages.

The question now is what future can or will Sciver-Brunt have in the sport? In the immediate future, it will be in support of Nat, but English cricket would be foolish to allow her role to remain as a spectator.

Anyone with the experience of a trio of World Cup wins and three Ashes successes cannot be lost to the game. Furthermore, having straddled different eras of the women's game, she will be a crucial voice going forward.

The hope is this is au revoir and not goodbye.
