Kia Oval Talking Points: Deandra Dottin holds her nerve

The Cricketer looks at the main talking points from the Women's Hundred clash between Oval Invincibles and Manchester Originals at the Kia Oval

Movement That Inspires play of the day

As with four years ago, a South African allrounder looked set to guide Oval Invincibles to a victory over Manchester Originals.

Four needed off the last delivery left Marizanne Kapp with the clearest of tasks.

But she did not account for the brilliance of Deandra Dottin, who executed the perfect yorker to limit her to a single and secure a two-run victory.

Broadcasters had spent the whole afternoon billing the West Indies allrounder as the player to watch, the outstanding talent on display. You can sometimes wonder if they're setting themselves up for a fall.

However, there was no doubting they got their selection correct on this particular day, with Dottin producing the ball of the game to secure the four points.

Take The Lead, Drive Electric moment of the day

Perhaps it was fitting that the repeat of the first-ever Hundred match four years ago included a stand-out moment from one of the survivors from that meeting.

Amelia Kerr was looking to up the ante with just under half of the Originals' innings remaining and looked to have done that successfully when she struck a short, straight delivery from Phoebe Franklin towards mid-wicket.

But Farrant had other ideas. The former England-contracted seamer bounded in off the boundary, jumped full length and took a superb low catch to remove the Kiwi for a run-a-ball 15.

It was an excellent grab, taken against the empty white seats of the Galadari Stand, and by an athlete who had endured her fair share of fitness setbacks, not least with her back.

Australian authority

Spectators were treated to an Aussie batting masterclass at the Kia Oval.

Originals captain Beth Mooney, who has two scores in The Hundred in the 90s, hit 70 from 45 balls - more than half their total - with some sweet hitting.

Meg Lanning looked on course to eclipse her, reaching her half-century in 39 balls with a four over mid-on to reduce the equation to 22 off 11.

And the points looked to be staying in south London when Fi Morris put her down on the boundary, giving her an eighth four and taking the Invincibles within 13 of victory.

But the very next ball, she picked out the nerveless Alice Monaghan off Kathryn Bryce to depart for 56. That was the game.

"I've seen Meg win a lot of games chasing totals like that," Mooney, the player of the match, said. "So there's always a little bit of fear in you when she's out there hitting the ball like that.

"She's been an amazing player for a number of years and, unfortunately, doesn't get to play on the same team as her own franchise cricket.

"But as a fan of the game, it's really nice to see her out there with a smile on her face and hitting the ball like she is. But glad we got that catch at the end."
