The Cricketer is looking for a talented, resourceful and dedicated journalist to join our expanding team
The role
Reporting to the digital editor, you will play a major part in driving our daily output of news, features and comment.
Thecricketer.com has seen its web traffic grow 500 per cent in the past 10 months and the position on offer will be a key part in ensuring that the upward curve is maintained through quality journalism to demanding deadlines.
You will attend international and county cricket matches and press conferences, ensure our website is updated with breaking news, look for untold stories from club cricket and generally submerge yourself in our wonderful sport.
You will also assist in the production of The Cricketer in print - the world’s most famous cricket magazine - and be the primary driver of our video content online, as well as contributing ideas which will improve our digital offering.
You will also be responsible for helping achieve our commercial objectives and in particular supporting our digital clients. As a member of a small team you will also be involved in other projects and activities run by The Cricketer including the National Village Cup.
The candidate
You will be confident sourcing and writing unique and engaging stories, comfortable forging contacts, diligent in your presentation of content and application to professional standards and willing to try your hand at new skills.
The ideal candidate will also have demonstrable video and audio editing skills, be comfortable in front of a camera and microphone and have an understanding of the commercial aspects of digital journalism.
An NCTJ qualification or equivalent is desirable but not essential, depending on the candidate.
A wide understanding of and deep interest in cricket is essential.
You should be proactive, an excellent writer and willing to adapt to some unusual hours.
The role will suit an ambitious journalist looking to jump into the world of cricket and enjoy the freedom and independence to drive the creative process.
Location and start date
This is a full-time position based in south London, not far from The Oval, starting as soon as possible.
Salary
Competitive, depending on experience.
Other information
This role will involve some weekend and overnight work, and some UK travel.
