The Cricketer has a much sought-after vacancy on its digital desk. The Cricketer’s website is a fast-moving, award-winning digital operation with a Premium Subscriber offering the best insight and analysis of English international cricket and the County game.

As a Staff Reporter, you are at the forefront of the day-to-day cricket news publishing cycle with a brief to write and record content that drives people to the website via search and social media. Your chief metrics will be across driving Premium Subscribers, Users and Direct Traffic.

This role has primary responsibility for overseeing The Cricketer’s forthcoming daily live blog and turning round copy that reflects search and social trends.

This could include breaking news, milestone content, extracting lines from press releases and digesting what is top of the agenda for the cricket going and watching public.

The role will include Premium feature writing online and for the magazine, and the successful candidate could assist with the day-to-day running of the digital desk and social media schedule. The successful candidate will be required to travel the UK to events and matches regularly, including domestic County and England cricket matches as well as involvement in some commercial commitments

The ideal candidate would be confident and have some experience in front of camera to take part in video podcasts and wider audio and video content across The Cricketer’s channels.

This is a remote working role.

Salary: £competitive

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong written and interviewing skills
  • Experience in front of camera and behind a microphone
  • An understanding of social media trends and a knowledge of digital analytics to identify high-value content
  • Experience editing, subbing and building copy from a team of reporters as part of occasional digital desk shifts
  • An understanding and familiarity with Content Management Systems (CMS)
  • Good organisational skills - as a small team we often find ourselves working across multiple tasks to deadline
  • A love of cricket - reporting on the global game sometimes means some anti-social hours with late nights or early mornings

This is a full-time, remote role. The Cricketer’s head office is based near Loughborough.
