The South African, who led Sunrisers Eastern Cape to SA20 glory, succeeds Kane Williamson who was released after last term. Sunrises have only won the IPL once, back in 2016
Aiden Markram will captain Sunrisers Hyderabad during the 2023 Indian Premier League.
The 28-year-old succeeds Kane Williamson, who was released by the team following last term's eighth-place finish.
In 46 matches he won just 22 and lost 23, leaving him with the worst win percentage of any Sunrisers skipper to lead for more than 16 matches.
Markram recently led Sunrisers Eastern Cape to SA20 success. Last season, his first for Sunrisers after being signed for 2.6 crore in the auction, saw him return 381 runs and a single wicket in 14 matches.

He has previously led South Africa on five occasions, all coming during the six-match one-day international series against India in 2018. He won just a single game in a 6-1 series defeat.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar was overlooked for the role despite having captained Sunrisers on seven occasions - most recently in last season's final league match when Williamson returned to New Zealand for the birth of his second child.
Since entering the IPL in 2013, the Sunrisers have been champions once in 2016 and reached the playoffs on two other occasions. They've finished eighth in the last two campaigns.
Alongside retaining the likes of Glenn Phillips, T Natarajan, Umran Malik and Washington Sundar, they used the auction to sign up Harry Brook, Heinrich Klaasen, Mayank Agarwal and Adil Rashid.
