Scorecard

Shubman Gill starred with the bat to help Gujarat Titans defeat Delhi Capitals by 14 runs and maintain their unbeaten record in the 2022 Indian Premier League.

The opener top-scored for his side with 84 runs from 46 balls, including six fours and four sixes, before a team bowling performance – headlined by Lockie Ferguson’s 4 for 28 – helped stifle Delhi Capitals’ chase.

Batting first, Gill lost opening partner Matthew Wade after three balls before enjoying productive partnerships with Vijay Shankar, Hardik Pandya and David Miller.

He was eventually removed at the start of the 18th over after being caught behind by Rishabh Pant off Mustafizur Rahman, but Miller and Rahul Tewetia continued his work, adding 23 runs off 13 balls for the fifth wicket.

Gujurat Titans closed on 171 for 6, Rahman picking up two wickets in the final over to finish with figures of 3 for 23.

In reply, Delhi Capitals lost three wickets inside the powerplay to slip to 34 for 3 before Pant and Lalit Yadav began to motor, adding 61 runs off just 41 balls.

However, when Yadav was removed midway through the 12th over, it knocked the stuffing out of Delhi’s chase and wickets fell steadily until close.

Pant top-scored for the Capitals, posting 43 from 29 balls, but found limited support from his teammates, while Ferguson, Pandya (1 for 22), Mohammed Shami (2 for 30) and Rashid Khan (1 for 30) were the wicket-takers for Gujarat.
