PHIL CAMPBELL: The 48-year-old takes over from the outgoing former Sri Lankan paceman Lasith Malinga who had spent two seasons at the side
Former New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond has joined Indian Premier League franchise Rajasthan Royals in the dual position of assistant and fast bowling coach for the 2024 season.
The 48-year-old takes over from the outgoing former Sri Lankan paceman Lasith Malinga who had spent two seasons at the side.
Bond, who retired from cricket in 2010, will join the Royals having previously spent nine seasons with Mumbai, helping them to four IPL titles in that time.
Speaking about his new roles, Bond said: "I'm delighted to be joining the Royals. It’s a forward-thinking franchise who are determined to do well and I’m excited about being part of their vision.
"The bowling group is a great mix of youth and experience, and it will be awesome to work alongside them."

Prior to his time with Mumbai, Bond served as the bowling coach for the New Zealand men's national team between 2012 to 2015, helping the Kiwis reach the World Cup final.
The New Zealander has a reputation for guiding the development of fast bowlers and helped turn the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mitchell McClenaghan and Trent Boult into T20 specialists.
Royals director of cricket Kumar Sangakkara said: "Shane is one of the greatest fast bowlers of modern-day cricket, and brings with himself a wealth of experience and knowledge having mentored some of the best in the business.
"He has served in the IPL and in India for a number of years and is well versed with the processes involved within the franchise ecosystem,” continued Sangakkara.
"He is someone who has a keen eye for helping the best become even better and we are delighted to welcome him to the franchise and look forward to seeing the impact he can make towards moulding us into a title-winning team."
