Scorecard

Rajasthan Royals have climbed up to second in the Indian Premier League table after completing a 24-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants.

Batting first, Rajasthan lost Jos Buttler early on before a 64-run second-wicket stand off 40 balls between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson put them on the back on the front foot.

Samson was dismissed for 32 (24) in the ninth over but although wickets continued to fall every few overs, Rajasthan maintained a good scoring rate, with Devdutt Padikkal (39 off 18), Riyan Parag (19 off 16) and Trent Boult (17 not out off nine) all among the runs.

Ravi Bishnoi was the standout bowler for Lucknow picking up 2 for 31, while Avesh Khan, Jason Holder and Ayush Badoni were the other wicket-takers.

In reply, Lucknow lost three early wickets, with Boult removing Quinton de Kock and Badoni and Prasidh Krishna dismissing KL Rahul inside the powerplay.

Deepak Hooda (59 off 39) rebuilt the innings with Krunal Pandya, putting on 65 runs off 46 balls, and later Marcus Stoinis before a flurry of wickets saw Lucknow collapse from 116 for 4 to 120 for 7.

And despite the best efforts of Stoinis, who scored 27 runs from 17 balls, a successful chase never looked likely and Lucknow closed on 154 for 8.

Boult finished with figures of 2 for 18 from his allocation, with the remaining wickets shared around the bowling attack.
