Tewatia, batting at No.6, struck 40 not out from 24 balls to haul his team over the line after Lucknow appeared to have a handle on Gujarat's pursuit of 159 for victory at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai
Mumbai: Lucknow Super Giants 158-6, Gujarat Titans 161-5 - Gujarat Titans won by five wickets
Rahul Tewatia played the decisive innings as Gujarat Titans began life in the Indian Premier League with victory over fellow newcomers Lucknow Super Giants.
Tewatia, batting at No.6, struck 40 not out from 24 balls to haul his team over the line after Lucknow appeared to have a handle on Gujarat's pursuit of 159 for victory at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
He added 60 in 5.4 overs with David Miller (30 from 21 deliveries) to steer the Titans back on course from 78 for 4 with one ball of the 12th over remaining, and remained unbeaten at the crease to guide Gujarat home with five wickets and two balls to spare.

Earlier, Lucknow had recovered from a timid start of their own to post a score of some substance.
Despite losing their entire, power-packing top four - KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock, Manish Pandey and Evin Lewis - with just 29 on the board, the Super Giants ensured Gujarat would have to chase at eight runs per over thanks to Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni.
Hooda clubbed 55 in 41 balls and Badoni, on his first appearance in the IPL, made 54 from 41. Mohammed Shami, with 2 for 25 from four overs, starred with the ball for Gujarat.
