Mumbai: Punjab Kings 189-9, Gujarat Titans 190-4 – Gujarat Titans won by six wickets

Scorecard

Rahul Tewatia was the hero in Mumbai as Gujarat Titans sealed a six-wicket win over Punjab Kings off the final delivery of the match.

Shubman Gill's 96 runs (59 balls) has the Titans on course for a tight chase in pursuit of 189 before his departure in the penultimate over and Hardik Pandya's runout off the first delivery of the 20th left the new franchise requiring 18 runs off the final five balls.

Two singles either side of a four from David Miller left Tewatia needing to hit the final two deliveries for six and Gujarat's No.6 duly obliged, dispensing Odean Smith over midwicket and long-on to seal the win. Smith's over went for 19 runs.

Up until the final two deliveries, Punjab Kings batter Liam Livingstone was on track to be the match-winner, scoring 64 runs off 27 balls.

Liam Livingstone scored 64 runs off 27 balls for Punjab Kings

The Cumbrian, who came in to bat in the fifth over following the early dismissals of Mayank Agarwal and Bairstow, enjoyed a productive stand with Shikhar Dhawan, putting on 52 runs off 32 balls to help his side to 86 for 2 at drinks, and a further 38 runs (18 balls) with Jitesh Sharma after Dhawan was removed by Rashid Khan (3 for 22).

Tewatia, in particular, felt the heat from Punjab's fourth-wicket partnership, leaking 24 runs in the 13th over, before debutant Darshan Nalkande briefly wrestled back momentum with back-to-back wickets in the 14th over, Sharma and Smith both picking out Gill at long-on.

Livingstone and M Shahrukh Khan quickly resumed the brisk run-rate, sharing a 29-run sixth-wicket stand before a flurry of wickets from Rashid and Mohammed Shami reduced the Kings from 153 for 5 to 162 for 9.

However, an unbeaten 27-run partnership between Rahul Chahar and Arshdeep Singh off the final 13 balls sent the Kings into the break on 189 for 9 – a total which ultimately proved just too small.
