Mark Wood is set to miss the latter stages of the Indian Premier League to be present at the birth of his daughter in late May.

The Lucknow Super Giants paceman, expecting his second child with wife Sarah, will fly home to present at his daughter's birth.

Wood has been prolific for the Super Giants this season, taking 11 wickets in his four appearances including 5 for 14 on debut against Delhi Capitals.

It is unlikely that he would return to India following the new arrival, with Afghan seamer Naveen-ul-Haq expected to be his replacement.

The majority of England players involved elsewhere in the competition are expected to stay until the end of the tournament.

Brendon McCullum's side play their one-off Test against Ireland at Lord's on June 1, just four days after the IPL final, but there is no indication that the ECB will require players to leave the competition early, according to ESPNCricinfo.

Ben Stokes, who last played for Chennai Super Kings on April 3, has previously volunteered he may leave India early but is yet to give a firm date for his departure.

Other England players elsewhere in the IPL, including Harry Brook and Joe Root, are unlikely to play in the knock-out stages with their respective franchises, while Jofra Archer is expected to miss out as he recovers from injury.

Super Giants play their next fixture against Punjab Kings on April 28, before back-to-back home matches against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings on May 1 and 3.
