Mumbai: Lucknow Super Giants 195-3, Delhi Capitals 189-7 – Lucknow Super Giants won by six runs

Scorecard

Lucknow Super Giants survived a late scare to defeat Delhi Capitals by six runs in Mumbai.

Chasing 195, Delhi maintained a strong chase thanks to knocks from Mitchell Marsh (37 off 20), Rishabh Pant (44 off 30) and Rovman Powell (35 off 21) before a blistering 42 not out off 24 balls from Axar Patel ensured a nail-biting finish.

Requiring 36 runs off the final two overs, Patel and Kuldeep Yadav hit Dushmantha Chameera for 15 runs before a six from the latter at the start of the final over reduced the equation to 15 off five.

However, after bowling a wide with his second delivery of the over, Marcus Stoinis rediscovered his composure to concede just one run off the next four balls. And despite Patel blasting the final delivery of the match for six, it was too little, too late.

Mohsin Khan was the pick of Lucknow’s bowlers, taking 4 for 16 from his four overs – including removing dangerous trio David Warner, Pant and Powell - while Ravi Bishnoi also impressed with 1 for 28. However, every other bowler conceded at least 11 runs per over.

Earlier, KL Rahul had once again dominated with the bat, scoring 77 runs off 51 balls to move to 451 runs for the season.

He received support from Deepak Hooda (52 off 34), with whom he shared a 95-run second-wicket stand, while opener Quinton de Kock also chipped in with 23 runs.

Shardul Thakur was the only player to take wickets for Delhi, picking up 3 for 40, while Patel bowled an economical 0 for 25.

Delhi Capitals will hope to return to winning ways against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 5 while Lucknow face KKR on May 7.
