Kolkata Knight Riders have trimmed seven players from their squad ahead of the 2021 Indian Premier League mini auction.

England batsman Tom Banton has been released after a meagre return in his first season in the IPL.

Australia Chris Green is also released, along with Siddhesh Lad, Nikhil Naik and M Siddharth.

Harry Gurney misses out, as well as USA bowler Ali Khan.

KKR will have seven slots to fill at the auction.

"We were very happy with the squad last year. We were just a bit unfortunate and that’s the way it goes," owner Venky Mysore said.

"Literally a little bit of run rate issue in the end, even though we were tied on points, didn’t allow us to go further. But I think we will regroup and come in very very strong (this year).

"We will have some opportunity at the mini auction to maybe do some fine-tuning. So, really looking forward to it and we are ready for IPL 2021."

Squad: Dinesh Karthik, Andre Russell, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Kuldeep Yadav, Lockie Ferguson, Nitish Rana, Prasidh Krishna, Rinku Singh, Sandeep Warrier, Shivam Mavi, Shubman Gill, Sunil Narine, Eoin Morgan, Pat Cummins, Rahul Tripathi, Varun Chakravarthy, Tim Seifert
