What's the match?

Punjab Kings take on Mumbai Indians in the 2023 Indian Premier League.

When is it taking place?

The match is scheduled to start at 7.30pm local time (3pm BST) on Wednesday, May 3.

Where is the match being played?

The game will be held at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.

Who's got form?

A win is very much needed for both teams. Duking it out in the lower-mid table, both Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians will still have their hopes set on securing an elusive top-four spot in the table, and a win here would go a long way to making that a reality.

Sitting sixth, Kings have returned three wins in their last five, even if their thrilling last-ball victory over CSK might have been a bit too close for comfort.

MI, meanwhile - their dramatic victory over Rajasthan Royals in the 1,000th IPL match aside - seem to have the momentum. Nipping at the Kings' heels in seventh, they have a game in hand and come into the fixture with an equally healthy three wins from five.

What's the team news?

Any doubt around Liam Livingstone's fitness has now been put to rest; that's now three consecutive matches without a flare-up of the fitness issue that delayed his start to the competition. After finding a winning formula against CSK, expect Kagiso Rabada and Prabhsimran Singh to be involved with the impact substitution once again.

Everyone but the Punjab Kings will be glad to see Jofra Archer's return to fitness after an injury-free outing against the Royals. Watch out for the Indians' use of the impact substitute, or lack thereof, in this match-up. They found success playing with the same XI across 40 overs last time out, meaning they may see no reason to change their plans.

What's the key matchup?

Continued consistency will be key if Kings are to emerge victorious. They may well have got over the line against CSK thanks to some last-ball heroics from Sikandar Raza, but a chase of 201 where top-scorer Prabhsimran Singh hits just 42 put emphasises on the need for every cog in the machine to turn up if they are to trump MI at home.

Kings will also be hoping for a change in fortunes for their bowling line-up. Sam Curran and Kagiso Rabada, with just one wicket between them versus CSK, can swing the game in their favour with a strong performance.

As for the five-time winners, they'll have confidence knowing their middle order is firing on all cylinders again. Kings will surely target Suryakumar Yadav, who launched his first ball for six on his way to making 55 off 29 against CSK, while Tim David's hat-trick of sixes to seal the deal at the Wankhede would inspire fear into the hardiest of bowling line-ups.

Head-to-head record

What are the odds?

Both Kings and MI are available at odds of 9/10 with the bookmakers.

Prediction?

Even the bookmakers aren't sure who is going to win this one, so expect it to be a close-fought affair. Given the momentum MI have after winning the IPL's 1,000th match, and with their middle-order batters firing, expect the visitors to leave Punjab with a narrow victory.
